There are many strange food around the world that you have never heard about. This weird food compilation features some strange delicacies from around the world, including surstromming, balut, and eating live scorpions.
Strömming is originated in Swedish, which is smaller than the Atlantic herring, lives in the North Sea. Strömming is "herring fished in the brackish waters of the Baltic north of the Kalmar Strait".
During a process of surströmming, salt is used to avoid rotting for the raw herring. A process lasts about six months to make the fish have strong smell. According to a recent study,surströmming is one of the most putrid food smells in the world.
Balut is a developing embryo duck which is boiled and people eat them in when it is in the shell. It comes from and is street food in the Philippines. They often serve balut with beer. It's quite popular in Southeast Asian countries(Laos , Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam).
Crickets can be fried in some way and they are heated the oil to 350 degrees.
Live octopus or San-nakji is made with long arm octopus, a small "baby octopus". The octopuses are killed before the chef cut them into small pieces and served. When they are served to the guests, they are alive.
Fried Tarantula is a regional food of Cambodia. In the Cambodian town of Skuon, fried spiders as a good food that attract a lot of tourists passing through this town. Spiders are also available in Cambodia.
Scorpions can be eaten for sure. The most important thing is that the stinger and venom must be removed if they're to be eaten raw. If they are well cooked, the venom will be broken down when heated.
